Server Selection
Shared Spaces (monitored folders) are synchronized by TeamDrive via a server of your choice. Every time a Shared Space is created, a corresponding server may be selected. The TeamDrive client will remember the chosen server and will automatically synchronize any new files and folders. The special thing here is the fact that every TeamDrive client can simultaneously communicate with any number of personal servers, standard WebDAV servers, and hosted cloud services.
All files are encrypted prior to being uploaded to the Server. Every Space has ist own 256 Bit AES key. These keys remain exclusively on the client computers and are never on the server.

The hosted TeamDrive Cloud server
Every piece if TeamDrive client software comes with a connection to a hosted Cloud server. Everybody gets 1GB of storage space for free, which can be extended at anytime using the TeamDrive application. This storage space is located on the servers of the corresponding service partner. TeamDrive uses the Amazon AWS EC2/S3 cloud infrastructure to host the encrypted customer data.
The TeamDrive Personal Server
The new personal server is especially useful for small enterprises, individual users, and households, allowing them to install and host their own server with a few mouse clicks. The combination of the intuitive use of the TeamDrive client software and the hosting of a private server allows for great mobility and flexibility when collaborating via the internet, while at the same time keeping costs extremely low.
The TeamDrive Personal Server is a slim and easy to install application which creates a secure, self-hosted TeamDrive HTTP server. This allows users to utilize any existing personal server, NAS drive, home media server, or any other computer as a personal TeamDrive Server, which they can then use for secure collaboration with invited members via the internet. These servers will store the groups data in highly encrypted form. The TeamDrive Personal server is optimized for TeamDrive and offers maximum performance and stability.
Technology
The TeamDrive Personal Server runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux. The server can be securely accessed and maintained over the internet via DynDNS.
The TeamDrive Personal server is a slim, secure HTTP server which reacts exclusively to queries from TeamDrive Clients. The server is accessed via a freely chosen port, making it easy to run it parralel to other HTTP and WebDav servers. TeamDrive uses its own authentification process to ensure that only authorized TeamDrive clients can write to the server. This means that the HTTPS protocol may be safely omitted. 32 and 64 Bit operating systems are supported. Required disc space is very minimal. 256 MB RAM is recommended, but depending on the number of supported devices it is possible to work with less than 100 MB RAM. The application itself is a mere 2 MB. It is important to have large hard drives with good performance, and to utilize your own backup solutions.
In order to use the TeamDrive Personal Server for the creation of SharedSpaces the servers access data (URL and password) must be entered into the corresponding TeamDrive clients. Doing this required TeamDrive personal or professional clients. As of version 2.2.098 any TeamDrive clients can be invited for online collaboration.
Running TeamDrive with WebDAV servers
The third option os to have TeamDrive synchronize Spaces via standard WebDAV servers. This does not require any sort of installation or server software, however the used WebDav servers must support the all of WebDAV commands. TeamDrive test the server connection when access to a WebDAV server is set up. Usually, WebDav servers and TeamDrive have no problem working together. However, there are certain restrictions that can all be solved by using a TeamDrive Personal Server. In connection with Web.DE there is a maximum of 1000 files per Space. Restrictions: Large files will be a mayor burden to the clients main storage device, and can create synchronization problems (a WebDAV server requires 3x more storage Space).
